Gold Canyon Chapter ES, P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization, raised more than $3,000 selling pecans for scholarships to support educational goals for women.
The Gold Canyon chapter meets from September through May with the primary goal of raising money through various fundraising events, according to a release.
Chapter ES is one of approximately 6,000 chapters across the United States and Canada. Since its inception in 1869, P.E.O. has raised more than $415 million in grants, scholarships awards and loans to women throughout the United States and internationally, the release stated.
It also owns and supports Cottey College in Nevada, Mo.
Beyond the state and international fundraising, Chapter ES also raises funds each year for a local high school student to receive a scholarship to attend a college or university, organization officials said.
