GLP-1 scams latest for Valley residents, BBB says

GLP-1 drugs have skyrocketed in popularity.

A recent survey shows bout one in eight people say they take the drug for a medical condition or weight loss.

But Insurance doesn’t always cover it. Out of pocket costs may be too expensive.

So, some people are searching for GLP-1 drugs online and complaining to the Better Business Bureau about what they received, or did not receive, for their money.

BBB ScamTracker shows an Arizona woman found a site promising a one-time GLP-1 non- subscription purchase.

Instead, she says the telehealth business signed her up for monthly deliveries and payments. 

She says she paid $199 for nothing and it would cost $100 to cancel.

One man signed up for compounded GLP-1 medications online.

He says they billed him “literally, $297 a month for absolutely no merchandise.”

And he could not get a refund. 

Compounded GLP-1 medications are pharmacy mixed alternatives to brand names and advertised online at much lower prices.

But compounds are not FDA approved so the agency does not review them for safety or effectiveness.

The agency says it has sent thousands of letters warning pharmaceutical companies and telehealth firms about misleading ads, including implying a sameness to FDA-approved products

If you’re searching for GLP-1 drugs, stick with name brands if you can.

Check the business name at bbb.org and online for complaints or reviews.

Beware of anyone selling GLP-1 drugs without a prescription or medical evaluation, which are required by law.

Don’t assume a celebrity endorsement is real. AI has made fakes look legitimate.

Authorities also warn some GLP-1 drugs are being sold with the words “for research purposes only.”   Never use those.
