NEW ERA

Glendale’s Gila River Arena gets new partner, new name

Desert Diamond Casinos, ASM Global, city announce multi-year partnership

As the city-owned arena in the Westgate Entertainment District opens a new post-hockey era in Glendale, it will do so under a new name and partnership.

Desert Diamond Casinos & Entertainment and ASM Global announced plans Tuesday for a new partnership that will rename the city’s 18,000 seat facility to Desert Diamond Arena. Formerly called Gila River Arena, the facility first broke ground in 2002, and was home to the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes from 2003 through 2022.

The Coyotes played their last game at the arena in April, and moved operations to the East Valley in Tempe.
