Glendale will ‘pause’ $70M downtown renovation amid disagreements

City council agrees to develop new information toward campus project moving forward

The upcoming $70 million downtown renovation in Glendale in its current form is on “pause" as new ideas will move the project forward.

At a Tuesday afternoon workshop to present new details on the major project — including everything from a renovation of historic Murphy Park that has caused some divide in the city to a planned construction timetable for the overall project — talk among councilmembers turned instead to “pausing” the project in its current form as new ideas surfaced.

Council did decide to continue forward with the project but to also concurrently look at new potential ideas for the renovation, up to and including examining the Westgate Entertainment District as a new site for city hall.
