Glendale unveils Sahuaro Ranch plan blending history, modern upgrades

This lily pond concept is an alternative improvement in the Sahuaro Ranch Park master plan. But it was a hit with Glendale City Council members and the $1.3 million project is highly likely to be included.

A priority for a redesigned Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale is a more noticable entrance withe a lighted and translucent ,onument sign.

This is an early playground concept from the Sahuaro Ranch Park master plan presented to the Glendale City Council Dec. 12. The large leaf-shaped designs are shade structures and a splash pad is included.

While Glendale City Council members liked the proposed new look of Sahuaro Ranch Park they saved their most fervent praise for a concept hearkening to the park’s roots.

Along with a master plan that contains nearly $24.3 million, city parks and recreation staff presented two additional design elements. A $1.3 million lily pond went from alternative concept to must have.

The lilly pond would make its return on the historic side of the park west of the fruit packing shed.
