Glendale unveils proposed Thunderbird Conservation Park upgrades

A new master plan design concept for Thunderbird Conservation Park could lead to upgrades for three trailheads, parking lots and restrooms with shade structures.

As presented during the Dec. 12 Glendale City Council Work Session, proposed upgrades to the three trailheads and entrances off 59th Avenue, 67th Avenue and 55th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak, would cost an estimated $20.3 million, said interim Parks and Recreation director John Kennedy.

Assistant City Manager Vicki Rios said there is $4.9 million in the Glendale fiscal year 2024 budget for design of the park upgrades. Beyond that, she said, funding sources need to be certain before a project timeline is established.
