Few employees are immune to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic among local businesses, particularly the small business community.
That includes strip clubs in the adult entertainment industry. Generally viewed as a controversial place of business, it’s easy to overlook that a topless nightclub like Xplicit Showclub, 11701 W. Glendale Ave. in Glendale, has about 20 employees on staff, and that doesn’t include the dancers who work as independent contractors to make a living.
In April 2020, strip clubs around the country had to sue the federal government to try to get access to coronavirus stimulus dollars, arguing the denial of relief loans because of the nature of their businesses infringed upon their constitutional free speech rights.
