Glendale to revisit shooting range proposal

Discussions will take on funding issue for officers’ firearms training

The next time the Glendale City Council will discuss the Capital Improvement Plan is during its April 13 workshop the debate over an indoor shooting range accessible to Glendale Police officers should resume.

Most of the disagreements between council members are not about the merits of a range that would allow for year-round firearms training. Instead, the points of contention are more about whether the city has a funding source for the project if no federal money is involved and where it should be in the list of priorities for public safety CIP proposals.

Eventually, council members reached a detente during a March 3 budget workshop. They agreed to have staff present cost figures and funding sources for the project at the next CIP discussions and hear from Police Chief Colby Brandt.
