A Veterans Day ceremony will take place in Glendale on Saturday.
The annual event starts at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St. Residents are encouraged to arrive early.
Dignitary attendees will include Mayor Jerry Weiers, active-duty military members, and elected officials. Local veteran organizations are invited to attend.
The flag raising will be performed by the Marine Corps League’s Old Breed Detachment No. 767. A fly over by F-35s out of Luke Airforce Base is scheduled for approximately 9 a.m.
“It is vital that we recognize the sacrifices our veterans have made so we are able to celebrate our freedoms,” Weiers shared in a press release.
The ceremony will take place outside on the lawn of the library, adjacent to the Veterans Memorial, and include a flag raising of the U.S., Arizona state, and POW/MIA flags.
Residents are asked to bring their unserviceable U.S. Flags to the event so the flags can be properly retired. Veterans IV Veterans will collect the flags and retire them later.
Anyone unable to stay for the ceremony may be drop off flags between 8 and 9 a.m. on the north side of the library in the book drop drive thru.
