Glendale to consider approving farm-to-residential move

City may annex 74 acres for upcoming subdivision

The next step in a complex process to develop an almost 80-year-old family farm in Glendale into hundreds of new homes comes before the Glendale City Council this week.

Council will consider moving forward on the proposed Rovey Farms/Legacy Point annexation at its afternoon workshop on Tuesday inside Council Chambers, 5850 W. Glendale Ave. The annexation would bring about 74 gross acres near Northern and 75th avenues, currently used for agriculture, into the city. The proposed new zoning, which also includes part of Peoria, would permit a 436-lot single-family residential subdivision on 120 gross acres, including 46 acres already annexed into the Glendale city limits.

The property up for annexation is currently within Maricopa County. Following annexation, developers seek to rezone the property to R1-6 PRD (single residence, planned residential development).
