Glendale teacher-student return from Hawaii after eulogizing forgotten WWII Veteran

A teacher-student duo from a Glendale high school spent time in Hawaii recently studying the history of the U.S. involvment in World War II and about the people who sacrificed their lives in the war.

Sam Ness, a world history and AP human geography teacher at Copper Canyon High School, and senior Aiden Kerbs learned the context of World War II in the Pacific and, specifically, the life of a silent hero who died during World War II and is buried in or memorialized at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.

The trip was part of the “Sacrifice for Freedom: World War II in the Pacific Student & Teacher Institute” program. Ness and Kerbs were the only duo selected out of Southwest and just one of 16 teams selected nationally.
