Glendale student project honors local ‘Silent Hero’ killed in WWII

Not only will Aiden Kerbs eulogize the late Richard Walsh in Hawaii, Walsh’s family taken by surprise in heartfelt research

Richard Walsh definitely knows how to make an entrance.

He was known as “Dickie” to his family in Phoenix, where they moved to in the early 1920s, and he later became a U.S. Navy pilot who had a date with fate awaiting him in World War II. Dickie came home to visit family in Phoenix in September 1944.

He flew his plane from North Island, San Diego Naval Air Station to Sky Harbor Airport but not before he circled the family home at 127 W. Granada Road to heartily announce his arrival.
