Glendale starts to plan more adaptive, inclusive playgrounds

The funding sources and order of improvements will need to be identified, but Glendale is starting down the path to more accessible and inclusive playgrounds at its city parks.

Glendale has 103 playground structures at 59 of its parks. Typically, a park will have one playground for ages 2-5 and another for 5-12.

Following City Council discussions at its April 8, workshop, the first priority is to replace the 21 parks with sand surfacing with poured in place rubber. Engineered wood fiber chips also meet the requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act for playground accessibility, but the council unanimously prefers to spend more money to put down the rubber surfacing.
