Glendale starts to craft accessory dwelling ordinance

Tabitha Perry, Glendale’s deputy director of Development Services, is leading the city's efforts to create a zoning text amendment on accessory dwelling units to fall in line with House Bill 2720, recently passed by the Arizona Legislature.

As the year winds down, Glendale is developing a zoning text amendment on accessory dwelling units In compliance with state statutes in House Bill 2720.

The Arizona Legislature approved the bill this year and goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

In HB 2720, the properties do not have minimum lot sizes, and units can be attached or detached. The allowable accessible dwelling unit size is 75% of the gross floor area of the existing single-family dwelling or 1,000 square feet, whichever is less.
