Glendale residents learn to coexist with urban wildlife

One longtime Glendale resident can recall when furry neighbors weren’t quite as plentiful.

Valley residents more and more learn to co-exist with urban wildlife, in the age-old examination of whether animals are invading human turf or vice versa. It’s a battle for desert dwelling that at times can lead to everything from munched landscape to physical contact.

“Some neighbors have said the coyotes were here first and we took over their territory. Not so. I have lived in my house since 1977 and there weren’t any around here,” Glendale’s Terri Gargis, who lives near Pioneer Elementary School, 6315 W. Port Au Prince Lane, said. “It’s been only in the past few years that they have appeared.”
