Glendale quietly relocated peacocks in fall

Estimates 35 remain around Sahuaro Ranch Park, Main Library

With little fanfare and no formal discussion after September, Glendale found new homes for nearly three quarters of the peacocks and peahens in and around Sahuaro Ranch Park and the city's main library.

Council reached a consensus to humanely remove the birds during an Aug. 12 workshop. Since the contract for relocation of the peacocks was under the $100,000 amount, it did not require a council vote, stated Media Relations & Communications Program Manager Lesley Miller in an email.

Residents and visitors who thought they saw less peafowl (the catch-all term for both peacocks and peahens) in and around the park over the holidays were right.
