Glendale police seek fatal hit and run suspect

Victim died at the scene on Sept. 28 incident

Glendale police are asking for help from the public to find a suspect in a fatal hit and run.

Just before 7 p.m. on Sept. 28, Glendale police and fire departments responded to a report of a collision on North 51st Avenue just south of W. Missouri Avenue. The victim, 37-year-old Garry L. Nelson, Jr., a Phoenix resident, was walking south in the two-way left-turn lane when he was struck from behind by a southbound red Cadillac sedan, police say.

Mr. Nelson was projected into northbound traffic from the impact and died on scene.

The red Cadillac left the area without stopping and did not return. The vehicle was recovered the next day a few miles away and abandoned.

The Glendale Police Department’s vehicular crimes detectives are investigating the collision and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of the fatal hit-and-run vehicle.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for potential reward up to $1,000, or the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000.
