Glendale police responding to rise in misdemeanor crime

New program will focus on repeat offenders

Misdemeanor crimes in Glendale are up, and police are taking steps to do something about it.

Deputy City Manager Rick St. John and Police Chief Chris Briggs at Tuesday’s city council workshop provided not only data showing the rising trend but also a plan to bring in a Misdemeanor Repeat Offender Program (MROP) to reduce recidivism for certain misdemeanor crimes, and thereby reducing the number of complaints and calls for service.

Numbers show misdemeanor incident reports in Glendale rose almost 7%, or by 890 reports, year over year from 2020 to 2021. Misdemeanors can range from petty theft to criminal damage.
