A man is dead after several agencies attempted to arrest him Thursday night in Glendale, according to a police release.

On April 20, a Fugitive Task Force comprised of local and federal agencies attempted to apprehend an armed and dangerous suspect for multiple felony counts. The Chandler Police Department had contacted the Fugitive Task Force in reference to a case which included kidnapping, domestic violence aggravated assault, aggravated assault, and felony warrants.

The task force located the male suspect near 5200 W. Northern Avenue. Officials identified the man as 25-year-old Brandon Pequeno.

At about 6:52 p.m., the Glendale Police Department assumed the investigation of an officer involved shooting at the address above.

According to the release, Pequeno, who was believed to be driving a stolen vehicle, rammed other vehicles in an attempt to flee officials and did not comply with the officers’ commands.

"Three members of the Fugitive Task Force, from the Mesa Police Department, fearing for their lives, responded with lethal force by firing their duty weapons," the release stated. "No officers or citizens were harmed during this incident."

Two other people occupied the vehicle with Pequeno, Officer Tiffany Smith told reporters Thursday night. Pequeno and a 17-year-old female were treated at the scene for injuries sustained from gunshot wounds. The two were then transported to a local Valley hospital with life-threatening injuries. The third subject, a 25-year-old man, did not sustain any injuries and was transported to the police station for interview.

Pequeno succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at the hospital, according to the release. The 17-year-old girl remains at the hospital in critical condition.

The relationship between the three individuals is unknown. Officials continue to investigate.

The Fugitive Task Force is based in the East Valley and is comprised of officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Mesa Police Department, Chandler Police Department, and Tempe Police Department.
