Glendale Police have identified 28-year-old Adrian Green as the man shot and killed by officers overnight after discharging his weapon and pointing it at officers.
Two Glendale Police officers were involved in a shooting about 12:37 a.m. Sept. 18 after responding to a suicidal subject call for service in the 8900 block of Maryland Avenue.
Preliminary investigation indicates Green was on the phone with a crisis hotline. The crisis line then contacted police and asked for a response based on the information they were gathering, a press release stated.
Responding officers were informed Green was armed with a loaded firearm and was standing outside the residence in the driveway. Upon arrival, officers staged a short distance from the residence. A drone was deployed to obtain a visual of Green, according to police.
As an action plan was being formulated, Green discharged the firearm multiple times. Ultimately two officers approached him, and Green pointed the firearm at them, resulting in the two officers discharging their duty weapons, striking him.
Officers were able to take Green into custody and render aid. However, he had sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
The officers involved were unharmed during this incident.
This remains an active investigation. The Buckeye Police Department will be taking the lead on this investigation as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team, which is a standard protocol for incidents involving officer use of force.
