Glendale Police have arrested two people in connection with a murder of a Surprise man last year.

Police arrested Jonathan Vasquez and Marciela Bahschnitt on July 22 and each were charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in the Nov. 10, 2024 death of Grant Siefert.

Siefert was reported missing from his Surprise apartment Nov. 11 by his mother. His body was reported lying in a retention basin in  Glendale at 56th and Peoria avenues early that morning.

He had various injuries from a sharp instrument. His autopsy revealed 22 stab wounds and 14 incision wounds across his body, as well as ligature marks around his neck and duct tape on his right wrist, according to a police report on the case.

Siefert's brother told police he received a text from him that night saying he had finished his shift at a Wendy's in north Peoria.  He drove to a Wal-Mart in Surprise around 9:40 p.m. Nov. 10, then to the Wal-Mart at 59th Avenue and Bell Road.

Glendale Police were unable to develop leads during their initial investigation.

On May 13 detectives received a tip that Bahschnitt managed the Wendy's where Siefert was seen that night on Bell Road in Surprise. A police report was located involving Bahnschnitt and Siefert from July 30, 2024, while the two were co-workers at Wendy's.

Siefert filed an assault report on the defendant, alleging she stole his cell phones and assaulted him. Surprise Police found no evidence of a theft or assault after reviewing video evidence.

According to the police report, a close friend of the Bahschnitt interviewed by police told investigators in December 2024 they met with the defendant and during a conversation, Bahschnitt admitted to killing Seifert but did not provide further details about the murder.

Hours before Seifert arrived at the Wendy’s in Surprise, Bahschnitt's device was in that area. Siefert was there to confront an employee who was Bahschnitt's friend and who had accused Siefert of harassment, but he left before speaking to this woman, acording to police.

When the Siefert's vehicle traveled to an apartment complex in El Mirage on Main Street where he was last seen that night, Bahschnitt device was in that immediate area, according to police.

Following this, there was a lack of data on the her device. DNA  samples found on the victime were submitted to Arizona Department of Public Safety for analysis, and on July 22 Glendale Police received results indicating DNA beneath the Siefert's right fingernail clippings was identified as belonging to Bahschnitt, according to police.

Bahschnitt told investigators she was close friends with the woman allegedly being  harassed by Seifert. She acknowledged to investigators that she drove to the woman's house and planned to do something to Siefert several hours prior to this murder. She confirmed Siefert arrived to the house in El Mirage and he got into a physical altercation with another man who had a stun gun, according to police.

Siefert was then walked to Bahschnitt's vehicle and placed in the back seat while being threatened with the stun gun, according to police.

Vasquez was interviewed by Glendale Police July 22 and provided varying statements. In them he described a fight between Siefert and two of the five people in the apartment. Siefert was subdued and restrained, according to police.

According to the police report, Vasquez sat in the back seat of a vehicle with the victim. He stated Siefert tried to get out. Vasquez grabbed the victim in the back seat to ensure he would remain in the vehicle. He also said the victim was afraid.

Vasquez claimed to investigators he was in and out of consciousness during the drive. In the police report, he recalled Bahschnitt being "pissed off" and that she kept yelling at Siefert to "shut up."

She then drove to a park and got out of the car with the victim. Vasquez recalled the park being in Glendale but did not know the exact address, and he did not recall anyone getting out of the car with Bahschnitt, according to police

Vasquez told investigators he came back to the car by herself and they left the area. Vasquez claimed he had no idea what happened to Siefert, according to the report.

Vasquez said he was confronted about cleaning out the blood located in the backseat of the car. According to the report, Vasquez advised he used bleach and scrubbed the blood out of the back seat.

Vasquez told investigators he knew Bahschnitt had a plan and he did not want to do any of it, and did not know this plan was going to go as far as it did, according to police
