Glendale police arrest man in death of 4-year-old girl

A man is facing charges in connection with the death of a 4-year-old girl in September.

Christopher S. Daniel, who turned 29 on Monday, was arrested on two counts of child abuse.

Around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18, Glendale Police and Fire departments responded to an apartment near 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road for a call of a child not breathing.

Upon arrival of the first officers, the fire department was already treating a 4-year-old girl. She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Police said the girl and her siblings, ages 8 and 5, were being cared for by their mother's boyfriend while she worked.

Police identified the caregiver as Mr. Daniel. He told police around he was preparing to put the children to bed when he realized the 4-year-old remained on the couch unresponsive.

A toxicology report later determined that the girl and her 5-year-old brother had fentanyl in their systems. Mr. Daniel admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier that day while caring for the children and had used fentanyl in the past.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Mr. Daniel agreed to meet with police. He was then arrested on the child abuse charges.
