Glendale Police arrest attempted juvenile kidnapper

Glendale Police announced the arrest of 28-year-old Timothy Tan Guan, for the attempted kidnapping of a juvenile female victim on March 13.

On March 6, police responded to the area of 87th Avenue and Solano Drive for a report of an attempted kidnapping.  When officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old female who said she had noticed she was being followed by a light-colored vehicle in the area of 91st Avenue and Cardinals Way on her walk home from school.

The vehicle pulled up next to her and a male exited the passenger side and began following her on foot for an extended period.  The victim sensed danger and ran away from the suspect, who has since been identified as Tan Guan.

Officers were able to obtain video from traffic cameras which showed the victim walking and the vehicle approach and stop next to her.  The suspect exited the front seat passenger compartment and followed the victim until they exit the view of the camera.

Secondary security video shows the victim running for her life through the landscaping/greenbelt of the neighborhood.  These videos were used to identify the vehicle, which led to locating the suspect.

Detectives spoke to the driver of the vehicle and the suspect, which led to his arrest.  Guan is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault on a minor and unlawful imprisonment.

Glendale Police commend the bravery of this young victim.  She did everything she needed to do to save her own life and escape a dangerous situation.

Officers and detectives took on this investigation and worked diligently to locate the necessary evidence  and arrested the victim March 7.
