Glendale native to defend Daytona win in NASCAR season opener

Glendale native Michael McDowell shocked the racing world with his Daytona 500 win last year, and he’ll be at the starting line when NASCAR’s new season begins in a couple weeks at — yet again — Daytona.

The 64th annual Daytona 500 kicks off the 2022 NASCAR slate when the engines roar in Florida on Sunday, Feb. 20, over Presidents’ Day Weekend.

It will mark the 41st straight time (dating back to 1982) The Great American Race has opened NASCAR’s season.
