Glendale native McDowell, NASCAR’s pole leader, preps for Charlotte race

Season series in final stretch with Phoenix Raceway championship a month away

With less than a month until the NASCAR Cup Series Championship at Phoenix Raceway, the Valley’s own Michael McDowell – who leads the season series in pole victories – will try and gain ground this weekend.

McDowell and the No. 34 Love’s Ford Mustang Dark Horse are readying for Sunday’s Bank of America Roval 400, the 109-lap, 252-mile oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course. Track activity starts with practice and qualifying at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 on the USA Network.

This past weekend at Talladega, McDowell, a Glendale native, earned his series-leading sixth pole of the season.
