Glendale man charged with murder after fatally shooting roommate

Suspect shot through bedroom door, paranoid Mexican cartel was after him

A Glendale man has been charged with second-degree murder after fatally shooting one of his roommates. He was also charged with dangerous drug possession and use for methamphetamine.

Tyrell Rashad Wood, 33, was arrested early Sunday morning at his apartment near 61st Avenue and Bethany Home Road after he shot through his bedroom door, believing he’d heard gunshots and people coming for him. Mr. Wood’s girlfriend told Glendale police he’d been paranoid for a week that the Mexican cartel was after him.

One of Mr. Wood’s roommates was hit by the shots he fired through his bedroom door. She was transported to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center but was pronounced dead. Police said they found four bullet holes in Mr. Wood’s bedroom door, fired from the inside. The police report did not mention evidence of any other gunshots.
