Glendale looking into upgrading traffic signal management system

New $280K agreement up for a vote

The focus on city streets around Glendale continues.

The city council at its Tuesday, Oct. 25 voting meeting will take up entering into an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc., to authorize $280,000 for upgrading Glendale’s traffic signal management system, KITS.

The city has 204 traffic signals, 159 closed circuit television cameras, and 57 changeable message signs, according to Transportation Director Shahid Abbas, who will be presenting the new agreement on Tuesday. These devices are interconnected with 105 miles of fiber optic cable, and are remotely controlled from a centralized location at the Traffic Management Center using the traffic signal management system known as KITS.
