Glendale investor set to break ground on $50M sports complex

Tony Mangat’s ‘dream’ project will blend field hockey with soccer, and more after that

He came to this country with just a few bucks in his pocket. A couple decades later, Tony Mangat is leading an effort to build a $50 million sports complex in Glendale.

Founder of The Mangat Group, located at 7138 N. 110th Ave., in Glendale, Mr. Mangat arrived from India with $20 in his pocket, bounced from New York to California to, in 1998, Arizona, and has gone from driving trucks to owning his own trucking company to real estate investor. With business success enabling him now to think larger, he’s venturing out on his biggest project yet with a goal to give back to the community and country that’s given him opportunities.

Next week, a field hockey practice field will go in on the 36 acres he purchased at Northern Avenue and Loop 101 in Glendale. The site will eventually expand to include a main field hockey surface, stadium with seating, a locker room and offices, three to five soccer fields, and a large gym to accommodate volleyball and basketball.
