Glendale house fire sparked by e-bike draws attention to trend

E-bike popularity is surging, but so are issues

A Glendale house fire, apparently sparked by an e-bike lithium battery, has renewed a closer look into the e-bike recreational trend that has almost doubled since 2020.

Glendale Fire and Peoria Fire-Medical extinguished a blaze near 75th Avenue and Crystal Road late on the night of Jan. 24. Investigators identified an e-bike battery as the cause of the fire, according to Glendale Fire Capt. Ashley Losch.

The initial garage fire sparked because of a lithium battery from an e-bike, say investigators. Meanwhile, as crews were checking the scene once the fire was out to make sure no fires remained, two other e-bikes were removed from the garage.
