Residents are invited to see and try a daVinci surgical robot this month as Abrazo Arrowhead Campus in Glendale celebrates surpassing 10,000 procedures using the operating room technology.
Hospital visitors will have the opportunity for hands-on demonstrations to learn how surgeons use the robot’s computer-guided instruments and navigation in general surgery, gynecological, urology, colorectal and bariatric procedures.
The surgical robotics open house goes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, and again from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. Bariatric surgeon Dr. Ryan Pinnell and hospital COO Matt Sartorius will speak at noon on Friday, Oct. 13.
The Glendale campus is located at 18701 N. 67th Ave.
DaVinci technology uses tiny instruments that can move like a human hand, but with a greater range of motion, according to a press release. It uses highly magnified, 3D high-definition views of the surgical area making it possible for surgeons to operate through a few small incisions.
Robot-assisted surgery is an alternative to traditional open surgery and adds precision to the surgeon’s movements. Doctors can perform many different types of robotically assisted procedures.
The public is invited to learn about robotic surgery at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus on Oct. 12-13 in Glendale. The daVinci robot-assisted surgical system includes a surgeon’s console that maneuvers multiple robotic arms for minimally invasive surgery.
