Glendale homeless program has housed 1,000+ since 2021

One city ZIP code led all of Maricopa County in evictions last year

It isn’t that Glendale residents like Karen Sherman are indifferent toward the city’s homeless population. But they are concerned about their neighborhoods, whether it’s a safety issue or unsightly piles of garbage left behind.

Sherman lives near 67th Avenue and Country Gables Drive, where a bridge extends over Thunderbird Paseo Park, a popular stretch of 4 miles of trails for walking, horseback riding and biking.

The bridge area is remote enough to be out of sight and mind, which attracts members of the unsheltered community. It is, however, close for residents, particularly those along Country Gables, which lines the southern edge of Paseo Park and its trails.
