A few days before Memorial Day, finding Coit Burner is easy.
He’s the one outside in 100 degrees for three hours, as he was Thursday, planting 275 American flags in grass and gravel over three square blocks around the Catlin Court Historic District, one block north of Glendale’s downtown center.
“My grandfather was in the Philippines during World War II,” he said, pulling his red wagon packed with U.S. flags, some of which are placed literally in front of white picket fences. “I just had a couple uncles pass away; one of them was in Vietnam. They were both veterans. So, it’s a little extra special this year.”
