Glendale gas station murder suspect arrested, in custody (video)

Police still seek motive but believe the victim was targeted

The suspect in last week’s murder in Glendale is behind bars.

Glendale police on Friday afternoon announced the arrest of suspect Mohammad Hussain Ataei, 20, on one count of first degree premeditated murder charges. Police say Ataei, an Avondale resident, allegedly killed Irma Rivera-Martinez, 25, with more than 10 gunshots in “a heinous vicious murder” as she worked at a Chevron gas station at 51st and Glendale avenues in Glendale.

Detectives believe Ataei targeted Rivera-Martinez but have yet to find a motive. The killing took place one mile east of the downtown Glendale center.
