Glendale donates ambulance to Mexican border city

It’s about three hours from Glendale to Sonoyta, Sonora, Mexico, but that gap got a little smaller on Thursday.

Municipal President (equivalent of a mayor) of the city of Sonoyta Luis Enrique Valdez Reyes visited the West Valley on Dec. 9 to meet with Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers at Sahuaro Ranch Park to take delivery of an ambulance that Glendale donated to the town in the northern Mexican state of Sonora, whose city stands on the U.S.-Mexico border and is used as a crossover point for American tourists headed to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, or other Northern Mexico cities.

Weiers explained that word reached Glendale about a year and a half ago about the city’s “desperate” need for an ambulance. COVID slowed down the process initially.
