Glendale, Coyotes weigh their different futures

No one — not even the team — knows yet where the Coyotes will call home after 2022

It looks more and more like Gila River Arena and the Arizona Coyotes each have separate fates in their future.

Their days together are numbered since the city of Glendale and the Coyotes issued individual statements on Aug. 19 regarding their relationship under one roof at Gila River Arena, which the Coyotes have called home since 2003. Glendale will not be renewing the team’s lease at the city-owned Gila River, and there is seemingly a final date in place for their last skate in the West Valley.

“I’ve been very clear that we were not going to continue on a year-to-year agreement,” City Manager Kevin Phelps said Aug. 23, reiterating the crux of the disagreement between Glendale and the Coyotes, and their respective future plans.
