Jamie Aldama, who has served on the Glendale City Council representing the Ocotillo District for nine years, announced Tuesday he will run to unseat Jerry Weiers as mayor in 2024.
Aldama filed his paperwork in the morning and then hosted a press conference at Murphy Park in downtown Glendale to announce his candidacy on a platform of uniting a leadership team on city council he calls “divided.”
“For far too long our council has been divided,” he said in his remarks with city hall as a backdrop. “Contentious and unable to put citizens first. The practice of sowing division within the organization and the dais cannot be ignored. Glendale deserves better leadership in a mayor.”
