Glendale council to vote on code changes regarding homeless

Discussion at workshop earlier Jan. 14

A new-look Glendale City Council will spend both of its first non-ceremonial meetings on Jan. 14 discussing a city code change on a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on enforcing camping bans on the homeless.

During the afternoon workshop, the council will hear and discuss an ordinance changing city code to allow Glendale Police to enforce urban camping ordinances. Then, during the night meeting, the council will vote on it.

Deputy City Manager Rick St. John stated in an email that nothing in the ruling from the Supreme Court mandates any other government agency to amend their codes.
