Glendale council sets summer-long process for filling vacancy

The Glendale City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to begin the process to fill the Cactus District council seat, with the knowledge an appointment would not come until late August and that a court ruling could stop the proceedings.

During a special meeting May 28, the council voted out Cactus District Councilmember Lupe Conchas by a 4-3 margin, determining he violated the city charter by accepting a position on an SRP board that provides members compensation.

Conchas has sued the city and each individual council member in their official capacity in Maricopa County Superior Court. His court hearing is Thursday though the start time is not set.
