Glendale council knocks down sign-free tourism zones

A majority of the Glendale City Council denied a proposal to create special commercial tourism zones around Arrowhead Towne Center and Westgate Entertainment District.

If the request made its way to a voting meeting and the council approved it, political candidates would not be able to place campaign signs in those tourism zones.

Mayor Jerry Weiers and council members Lupe Conchas, Dianna Guzman, Lauren Tolmachoff and Bart Turner quickly shot the idea down after a staff presentation at the Jan. 14 workshop. Guzman was a first-time council candidate in the Yucca District this summer, and Westgate is the heart of that district.
