West Valley city aims to slow speeding with new radar enforcement in cars

What has been a fairly quiet, maintenance oriented city budget cycle received a focal point and an additional expense the Glendale City Council believes is worth including immediately.

During its April 22 workshop, the council, other than Mayor Jerry Weiers who was at a conference, unanimously gave its backing to a $600,000 supplement to the fiscal year 2026 budget after an April 1 discussion on traffic safety and traffic enforcement.

Glendale had 75 traffic fatalities combined during 2023 and 2024, according to city staff, and half as many homicides in the same timeframe.
