Glendale confirms that Coyotes’ outstanding bills are current

Monday deadline met; no early eviction coming

The Thursday night game this week with the Arizona Coyotes and Tampa Bay Lightning will take place in Glendale as scheduled.

As recently as a few days ago, it wasn’t a sure thing.

The city of Glendale on Monday evening confirmed the NHL team had brought its outstanding bills current. Back on Dec. 8, Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps sent a letter to Coyotes team president Xavier Gutierrez informing him that because of outstanding taxes and back rent in excess of $1.3 million — $250,000 of which was owed to the city — the Coyotes would face eviction from Gila River Arena, their home since 2003, by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, if the bills were not paid.
