Glendale commission will look into medical marijuana zoning law

Distance between facilities up for discussion

A little more than a year since recreational marijuana first went on sale in Arizona, Glendale will take a look at potentially updating its zoning ordinance for medical dispensaries.

The city’s planning commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in Council Chambers’ Conference Room B-3, at 5850 W. Glendale Ave., to initiate a text amendment to update Glendale’s zoning ordinance, specifically the section relating to medical marijuana. The intent is to provide revisions to the current medical marijuana code basically adjusting distance requirements associated with specific uses within industrial zones, according to the city.

The commission will decide whether to initiate the amendment. The planning commission’s role is to analyze, review and make recommendations to the council regarding land use and development-related issues.
