Glendale becomes 9th Arizona city to pass LGBTQ-protection ordinance

Glendale is now the ninth Arizona city to adopt a non-discrimination ordinance to protect for members of the LGBTQ community.

The City Council on May 25 unanimously passed the new ordinance, which, according to its language, will take effect in 30 days.

“This is not a new idea nor topic for this council,” Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said before casting the final yea vote. “Since I became mayor, this council has made a concerted effort to study and take measured steps to address discrimination in many of its different forms. By Glendale adopting the framework of the Mesa ordinance, with the same language ... I hope that other cities will consider adopting a similar ordinance and that they would use our ordinance as a model so we can have consistency across the Valley.”
