Glendale baseball legend Bob Horner dies at 68

Valley product also starred at ASU before going on to 10-year career in the Majors

One of the greatest baseball players ever to come out of Glendale has died.

Bob Horner, a 1975 graduate of Apollo High School who belted 218 home runs in a 10-year Major League career that famously started with him never once playing in the Minors, died Tuesday in Texas at age 68. His wife, Chris, announced the news on social media.

Although he was drafted right out of Apollo, Horner elected to play with his hometown Arizona State team, which he helped lead to three consecutive College World Series appearances, including the 1977 national championship.
