Enjoy pizza for lunch and in the process help Arizona families affected by pediatric cancer.
Family-owned and -operated Barro’s Pizza and Pepsi are teaming up for the eighth year this month to raise money for the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children, a local nonprofit whose mission is to help families with the high costs and challenging logistics while caring for their children during cancer treatment.
All Barro’s Pizza locations all month long will donate proceeds, up to $40,000, from the sale of any lunch special to the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children. Guests can choose from a selection of lunch specials.
“We look forward to this fundraiser every year,” Ken Barro, Barro’s Pizza co-owner, shared in a statement. “Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children has been instrumental in helping so many Arizona families during a very trying time. Thanks to our loyal customers, we’ve raised more than $221,000 to date and are excited to support them again this year.”
Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children was founded in 2013 by Chrisie Funari after she lost her young daughter, Ava, to cancer. Funari traveled the country seeking the best treatment and care for her daughter.
Knowing the struggle and the toll it takes on the family, Funari started the organization to empower families by ensuring they have a secure place to live, access to medical treatment and continued support. They have since helped hundreds of local families and will continue to help more and more families each year.
“We are so grateful for Barro’s Pizza’s continued support,” said Funari, Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children president and founder. “Their contribution has had a significant impact on our ability to provide critical services and support to children and their families affected by cancer.”
Barro’s Pizza has 47 locations in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties and one in McKinney, Texas. The Barro’s Pizza recipe comes from Grandma Angelina Barro who came from Italy in the 1930s.
