Glendale aware new transportation head placed on ‘leave’ from previous post

Assistant City Manager says Shahid Abbas vetted, interviewed about California exit last month

The city of Glendale’s new transportation director was placed on leave from his last position a month ago, but his new supervisor in the West Valley is “thrilled” to have him on board.

The city announced Dec. 27 that Shahid Abbas was selected to lead the transportation department and will assume his new role in Glendale on Monday, Feb. 14. His previous role, as public works director with the city of South Pasadena, California, ended in November when he reportedly was placed on indefinite leave.

The South Pasadenan newspaper on Nov. 10 said “no information was provided” regarding Abbas’ exit from the post, which according to the report caught some city staffers by surprise, including South Pasadena’s Public Works Commission chairman who added the body “had not heard any news about this prior” to the city manager’s email that Abbas was on leave.
