Glendale artist eager to return to live exhibitions

COVID may have put gatherings on hold, but Manny Burruel’s paintbrushes have been plenty busy

Arizona history through eyes and the paintbrushes of Manny Burruel is so vivid that even others find familiarity in his pieces.

The longtime Glendale resident’s artwork has enjoyed exhibits all across the Valley for 25 years, including a solo exhibition from his “Phoenix Landmarks” series at Phoenix City Hall in 2019.

“Based on my memories or places that I’ve been or even objects that instill a memory,” he said of his source for inspiration. “And a lot of people who go to my art shows, they’ll walk up to me and say, ‘Aww I remember that! I remember that place!’ We get to have a conversation, and they have their own experience associated with it.”
