Glendale approves mixed-use development near Westgate

West Valley residents will soon have even more places to shop, live and work near Westgate.

Glendale City Council unanimously approved zoning and general plan changes Tuesday for the Glen91 planned development on a 15.5-acre site at the southeast corner of Glendale and 91st Avenues, which plans to include apartments, office space and commercial businesses. The site is immediately to the northeast of Westgate.

“I am excited to see this project,” said Yucca District Councilwoman Joyce Clark, whose district includes Glen91.

Ms. Clark has opposed apartment complexes under most circumstances but supports the Glen91 apartments because of the sites location and because she believes they will be top quality apartments.

“It’s an apartment project, and people will be aghast that I’m supporting another apartment project, but it is butting right up against Westgate, and I’ve said repeatedly, it’s an appropriate location for that kind of mass, and that mass helps to support Westgate and Zanjero.”

The apartments are propose for the eastern edge of the site. Another multifamily development, the Westgate Village assisted living, is immediately to the east of the Glen91 site.

The general plan change extends Westgate’s Corporate Commerce Center designation east to include the Glen91 site. The zoning change creates a Planned Area Development for Glen91.
