Glendale announces potential new name for ‘Coyotes Blvd.’

Issue to be decided at December voting meeting

A small but high profile stretch of road in Glendale is one step closer to getting a new name.

Two weeks ago Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps announced that the only two local businesses impacted with the address “Coyotes Blvd.” in Westgate officially requested that the city rename the stretch of road. The street was originally named in honor of the Arizona Coyotes who called Glendale and Westgate home for 18 years until the NHL franchise shifted operations to Tempe this past spring.

Steve Eberhart, general manager for Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa, which is located at 9495 W. Coyotes Blvd., and Dan Dahl, director of real estate at YAM Properties, which owns Westgate, made the requests, according to Phelps, and together suggested a change to “Entertainment Blvd.”, it was announced at Tuesday’s city council workshop. The request for “Entertainment Blvd.,” as Phelps explained, is to reinforce the city’s brand as the Westgate Sports and Entertainment District.
