Glendale adding to efforts to link Valley bike routes, active transportation

‘Pilot project’ along 67th Avenue will be first up

For a region built for cars, the Valley is making a push to add more bicycle lanes to its travel options. But to do so, it takes each community to pitch in, as Glendale is in 2021.

The Maricopa Association of Governments has funded 12 bicycle-pedestrian master plans in the region during the past three years. In 2018, the city of Glendale was awarded funding through MAG to complete the city’s first Active Transportation Plan, and one of the first elements of that — the 67th Avenue Bike Lanes Project — looks to come to fruition this year.

MAG awarded Glendale $4.3 million from the federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Improvement Program toward design and construction of bike lanes and related bicycle facility improvements along a five-mile segment on both sides of 67th Avenue between Missouri Avenue and Cholla Street.
